Yturralde Leads Men's Golf, Chippewas 10th After Day 2 of The Carolina Cup

Philippe Yturralde moved up 15 places, is tied for 17th headed to final round
SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Central Michigan Men's Golf moved up to 10th place on Monday with Philippe Yturralde at the helm as the Chippewas completed the second round of The Carolina Cup at the Carolina Country Club.
The Chippewas were 11th of 15 teams on Sunday after the first round of the three day, 18-18-18 format tournament. After opening with 313, CMU carded a much-improved 299 on Monday to combine for a 36-hole total of 612 (+36).
CMU now leads UConn by one point, and is ahead of Charleston Southern, Lafayette College, USC Upstate and Tennessee Tech. The Huskies placed 1st of 13 teams at the UConn Invitational at Greathorse from Oct. 1 to Oct. 3.
Winthrop leads the tournament with a score of 589 (+13). The University of Texas- San Antonio (UTSA)'s Hunter Bott leads the field with a 3-under 141 after carding 67 on Monday.
As for the Chippewas, Yturralde benefitted from a hole 18 eagle and shot a 1-under 71 after finishing with 74 on Sunday, which brought his total to a 3-over 147. He is tied for 17th headed to the final round on Tuesday.
Jeffrey Andrus, who led the Chippewas with a 9th-place, 1-over 73 tie on Sunday, carded 76 on Monday to fall to 24thplace. He shares the tie with four others, one of them Arie Jackman, who is competing as an individual.
Jackman shot an even-par 72 on Monday to add to the previous round's 77, totaling 149 (+5) across the two rounds.
Yturralde, Jackman and Andrus each played the course's par 3s evenly with a 3.00 scoring average.
After carding an 83 on Sunday, Easton Phillips shot a 2-over 74 to move up 15 places on Monday and is now tied for 60th with a score of 157.
Through 36 holes, Trey Rusthoven is tied for 69th and Orlando Coons is 80th. Rusthoven recorded an eagle on hole 13.
The Chippewas will wrap up The Carolina Cup with the final 18 holes on Tuesday, teeing off hole 10 beginning at 8:55 a.m.
