Outstanding Chippewa football coach who guided Central to the NCAA Division II championship in 1974 ... had an 11-year record of 83-32-2 as head coach plus a 7-1 mark as a freshman coach ... a graduate of Maryville (TN) College, Kramer was Michigan's Class A "Coach of the Year" at East Lansing High in 1964 ... came to Central in 1965 and served as an assistant to Bill Kelly for two seasons before becoming head coach ... was national "Coach of the Year" in Division II in 1974 ... spent 12 years, from 1978-1990, as the athletic director at Vanderbilt University ... became the commissioner of the Southeastern Conference in 1990 and held the position until his retirement in 2002 ... is widely recognized as the father of the Bowl Championship Series.
