Study Table
Hours: Sunday, 4PM-9PM
Monday to Thursday, 8AM – 9PM
Friday by appointment
Study table, also known as study hall, is an organized and supervised study environment available for student-athletes based on coaches' request and academic performance. The Enberg Academic Center is open to every student-athlete to meet their studying needs and required hours on. The study hall space is open for students use on Friday, but no study table hours will be logged without prior approval from the academic coordinator or other exceptions. Student-athletes may earn time for tutoring/mentoring during all hours the Center is open.
Every freshman and selected student-athletes are required to accomplish up to 6-8 hours of study table each week in the fall. Required hours will vary in the spring depending on their academic performance in the fall. The Academic Coordinators, along with academic assistants, oversee study hall each day and evening. This study hall requirement is designed to help the student-athletes with time management skills, use the resources available to them, and to adjust to the challenging academic expectations at Central Michigan University.
Tutoring & Mentoring Services
Student-Athlete Services offers a free, comprehensive tutorial program for CMU student-athletes in the Enberg Academic Center of the Indoor Athletic Complex. Student-Athlete Services employs undergraduate and graduate student tutors to aid in a wide variety of academic subject areas.
All tutors receive training to enhance their instructional abilities, knowledge of NCAA, Athletics Department and Student-Athlete Services rules and regulations, and explore other aspects to offer excellent tutoring supports for our student-athletes. One-on-one tutoring occurs and, when possible, group tutoring sessions are offered to multiple student-athletes taking the same course.
Mentor meetings are shorter and more concise one-on-one sessions that help students map out weekly objective sheets and create schedules to help their time management skills and set daily and weekly goals.
Weekly Meetings
Students who are potentially at-risk or at the request of their coach are required to meet weekly with their academic advisor and learning specialist. The following are discussed in weekly meetings:
• Current academic performance/standing in class
• Upcoming events and/or assignments due in the student-athlete's courses
• Developing effective study skills
• Learning time management strategies and organization skills
• Transitioning from high school into college
Additional On-Campus Tutoring
• Academic Assistance (CMU tutoring and academic support information)
