The most successful Chippewa pitcher on the professional level in school history, Kevin was drafted by Oakland in 1986 and played for the New York Mets, the Minnesota Twins, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs over the course of his 13-year career ... he compiled a record of 143-125 with an ERA of 4.35 in his career ... was a key starter on the Minnesota Twins' World Series championship team in 1991 with a 16-9 record and a 2.99 ERA ... best season came with the Chicago Cubs in 1998, when he went 19-9 with 136 strikeouts ... a product of Escanaba High, Tapani was 23-8 for CMU and helped lead the Chippewas to three MAC titles ... tossed a no-hitter at Eastern Michigan in 1986.
