MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan University junior center Chris Kaman (Wyoming, Mich./Tri-unity Christian HS) has applied for early entry into the 2003 National Basketball Association draft.
If he does not hire an agent, Kaman has until June 19 to withdraw his name and return to CMU for his senior season.
The seven-footer was an honorable mention All-America selection by the Associated Press this past season. He was named the 2003 Mid-American Conference "Player of the Year," "Defensive Player of the Year," and MAC tournament MVP.
Kaman led the nation with 25 double-doubles and averaged 22.4 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 3.2 blocks per game. He was fourth nationally in rebounding, sixth in field goal percentage (.622),10th in blocked shots, and13th in scoring.
CMU won the MAC regular season and tournament titles in 2003 and defeated No. 15-ranked Creighton, 79-73, in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Dan Majerle was the last CMU player to be drafted. He was the 14th pick overall in the 1988 draft to the Phoenix Suns.
