Track And Field Wraps Up Competition At Jesse Owens Classic

MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Central Michigan University men's and women's track teams wrapped up competition at the two-day Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio, this evening. It was a non-scoring event.
The 18th running of the event featured 35 schools and several top club teams.
Highlighting the men's finishers was Steve Wolf, who won the high jump title with a 6-7 1/2 effort. Claiming top-10 places for CMU on the men's side were: Soji Jibowu (fourth, 200m, 21.39); Derold Sligh (sixth, 200m, 21.61); Luke Humphrey (sixth, 5000m, 14:32.99); Nicholas Stout (sixth, 110m hurdles, 15.05); Mike Sidlauskas (fourth, hammer, 187-9); Pat Walderzak (eighth, hammer, 181-1); the 400m relay team of Johnie Drake, Jibowu, Sligh, and Dana Thomas (second, 41.26); Thomas (fourth, long jump, 23-9 1/2); Walderzak (sixth, shot put, 52-1 1/2); Mike Marsh (10th, shot put, 50-2 1/2); Sidlauskas (third, discus, 163-4); and Marsh (fourth, discus, 159-6).
In the invitational events, the men's competitors were: Drake (seventh, 100m, 10.65; eighth, 200m, 21.9); Sligh (third, 400m, 47.89); Ian Searcy (ninth, 800m, 1:51.16); Ron Miller (seventh, 1500m, 3:51.31); Jacob Crowe (ninth, 1500m, 3:52.52); Stout (sixth, 400m hurdles, 55.91).
On the CMU women's side, 14 athletes were in the top 10. They were highlighted by Kristen Podein, who won the 1500m title in 4:38.86. Also placing in the top 10 were: Taylor Washington (sixth, 100m, 12.51); Camille Johnson (seventh, 100m, 12.57); Fallon Bailey (10th, 200m, 25.31); Emili Karry (second, 800m, 2:15.60); Connie Mallinson (fifth, 800m, 2:17.76); Cami Moll (sixth, 5000m, 17:41.76); Teresa Bongiovanni (eighth, 5000m, 17:46.49); Danielle Quisenberry (10th, 5000m, 18:00.20); Tamera Thomas (seventh, 100m hurdles, 14.86); Leslie Combs (10th, 100m hurdles, 15.19); Katherine Lolli (eighth, 400m hurdles, 1:04.81); Natasha Reynolds (seventh, javelin, 136-2); the 400m relay team of LaQuesha Wiley, Jenni Roberts, Johnson, and Bailey were fifth (47.68); Jackie Bozin (second, high jump, 5-7); Kelli Kirchofer (seventh, high jump, 5-3); Amanda Storck (fifth, pole vault, 11-1/4); Jen Wolbrink (10th, pole vault, 10-6 1/4); Wiley (fifth, long jump, 18-1 3/4); Jackie Smart (fifth, triple jump, 40-1/2); and Katie Davis (10th, shot put, 44-3 1/4).
In the invitational events, the women finished as follows: Bailey (fifth 100m, 12.18); Amanda Lyon (eighth, 800m, 2:14.27); Brook Creed (11th, 1500m, 4:39.71); Melissa Miller (12th, 1500m, 4:39.83); and Smart (17th, 100m hurdles, 14:59).
Both teams return to action on May 9-10 at the Paddock Invite in Ann Arbor.
