Lyle Bennett To Turn 100

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan University's legendary track coach Lyle Bennett will celebrate his 100th birthday with friends and family at a reception at the Riverwood Golf Course on Saturday, June 21.
The reception is open to the public and will run from 2-4 p.m.
Bennett, who has the outdoor track at CMU named after him, served as the Chippewa men's track coach from 1946-70. He also lettered in football, basketball, and baseball at CMU from 1925-27.
Under his guidance, CMU track teams went 118-81 in dual meets, winning 11 Interastate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles (nine outdoor and two indoor).
Bennett, who won 20 letters at Rockford High, was elected to the Helms National Hall of Fame in 1962, and is a member of the CMU Athletics Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the Alma College Hall of Fame.
The family requests no gifts but cards are welcome for Lyle who will turn 100 on Monday, June 23.
