Women's Cross Country Finishes 12th at MAC Championships

TOLEDO, Ohio-- The Central Michigan University women's cross country team finished 12th at the Mid-American Conference Championships this afternoon in Toledo, Ohio.
Junior Teresa Bongivanni led CMU with a 33rd-place finish. Bongiovanni ran the 5k event in 19:14.80. Also finishing for CMU were Sara Prout in 59th (19:53.40), Melissa Quisenberry 71st (20:22.70), Elizabeth Carpenter 72nd (20:25.55), Lauren Fairbanks 80th (20:36.10), Lisa Krueger 82nd (20:46.20), Ashley Anderson 88th (21:03.60) and Amanda Lyon 89th (21:03.95).
"This year no one really had a good race," said head coach Karen Lutzke. "There are many things that we need to work on before regionals and that is what we are going to focus on for the next two weeks."
The Chippewas finished 12th with 303 (points). Kent State won the MAC with 84 points, Ball State came in second with 86, Akron finished third with 106, Buffalo fourth with 109, Toledo fifth 124 and Miami finished sixth with 134.
The 5k race was won by Jenny Koeppel of Buffalo with a time of 17:51.70. The MAC "Coach of the Year" award was won by Wendel McRaven of Kent State.
CMU will head to Ypsilanti on November 13 to compete in the Great Lakes Regional Championships.
