Cross Country and Volleyball at Home This Weekend

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Three Central Michigan University athletic teams will be opening the 2004 season this weekend in Mount Pleasant.
The men's and women's cross country teams open with the Jeff Drenth Memorial on Friday, Sept. 3, beginning at 4 p.m. The races will be held at University Park in Mount Pleasant, just south of Kelly/Shorts Stadium by the Fairfield Inn. Michigan State and Ferris State are also competing in the meet.
The men's team is the defending MAC champion while the women's team is made up of athletes from last season's MAC indoor and outdoor track and field champions.
The volleyball team also jumps into action this weekend by hosting the Super 8 Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 3-4. Action begins at 4:30 p.m., on Friday and 10 a.m., on Saturday. Participating in the event are Indiana State, IUPUI and Wisconsin-Green Bay.
The Chippewas are the defending MAC West Division champions and are under the direction of first-year head coach Erik Olson.
