BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Freshman Jackie Rivard finished the season the same way she started it ... in front of the Chippewa pack.
The Central Michigan University rookie placed 48th overall at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Saturday with a 6K time of 22:35.7.
As a team, CMU was 24th of the 32 schools with 589 points.
"I was disappointed because we are a better team than last year but this year's regional finish isn't as good as last year's," coach Karen Lutzke said. "Our top two ran well, but our 3-4-5 runners needed to be where are No. 2 was. We just couldn't get it done.
"Rivard ran a great race, better than the MACs, and Amanda Rudert really moved up and did a good job job as well."
Rudert, also a freshman, was CMU's second runner to cross the finish with a time of 23:34.5 and a placing of 103rd.
Also scoring for CMU were senior Susan Duncan in 144th (24:06.7), Elizabeth Burdick in 146th (24:07.5), and Sara Prout in 148th (24:08.7).
No. 3-ranked Michigan and No. 4-ranked Notre Dame took the top two places, respectively, to earn the automatic bids to the NCAA Championships. Butler senior Victoria Mitchell was the individual champion with a time of 20:37.0.
Toledo was the top Mid-American Conference school in eighth and the Rockets' Dagmara Handzlik was the top MAC individual in 13th.
CMU senior Teresa Bongiovanni was injured an unable to compete in the meet.
