Vinson Advances to 60m Finals at NCAAs

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Central Michigan University junior sprinter Pierre Vinson (Detroit/Cass Tech HS) will vie for the national title in the 60m dash on Saturday after running a 6.70 in the prelims today at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
Vinson is one of three Chippewas who competed at the NCAA Championships on Friday, however, he is the only CMU athlete to advance.
Junior Clarence Glenn (Southfield/Lathrup HS) was one-hundredth of a second away from qualifying for the finals in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.81. Senior Johnie Drake (Detroit/Cass Tech HS) ran a 6.73 in a different heat of the 60m dash to post the 12th-best time in the prelims.
The top eight in each event advance to the finals and those eight individuals also earn All-America laurels.
"Pierre ran a nice race and we are looking forward to seeing him compete in the finals tomorrow," head coach Jim Knapp said. "Clarence ran about what he has been all season and Johnie was awfully tight and he gave it everything he had.
"I've said all along that at this level, anybody can win it or not advance to the finals. This is as good as it gets."
Vinson will challenge for the national title on Saturday at 7:25 p.m. Complete meet results can be found on ncaasports.com.
