STANFORD, Calif. -- Dave Ernsberger's NCAA automatic qualifying time of 28:54.65 in the 10,000m at the Stanford Invitational this weekend highlighted the opening meet of Central Michigan University's 2005 outdoor season. The event was held at Cobb Track on Friday and Saturday, March 25-26.
CMU had five distance runners compete in the event in hopes of turning in some national and regional qualifying marks for the NCAAs.
Four of the five accomplished just that with Ernsberger leading the way.
He finished 14th in his section and met the automatic qualifying standard of 29:00.00. Tristen Perlberg also ran in the 10,000m and he turned in a provisional qualifying mark of 29:16.36 while placing seventh in his section.
Two athletes recorded NCAA regional qualifying times in their respective races. Jeff Powers ran 14:13.59 in the 5000m to place 18th in his section and Matt Loiselle posted a seventh-place finish in the steeplechase with a mark of 8:53.72.
Jacob Crowe ran in the 1500m and he placed 15th in his section with a time of 3:54.19.
The NCAA Regional Championships will be held May 27-28 in Bloomington, Ind., while the NCAAs will be held June 8-11 in Sacramento, Calif. Athletes advance right to nationals for both the 10,000m and the decathlon.
