MOUNT PLEASANT -- Football star Peyton Manning knows what it means to be a leader.
The founder of the PeyBack Foundation, which promotes future success for disadvantaged youths, speaks at 8 p.m. April 19 in Central Michigan University's Rose Arena.
"He will be speaking about leadership and how important it is to stay in college and graduate," said Patti Pangborn, public relations coordinator for the student entertainment organization, Program Board.
Tickets, which are free for students, $5 for faculty and staff, and $7 for the general public, are available at the Central Box Office on the lower level of the Bovee University Center or by calling (989) 774-3000 or (888) CMU-0111 (toll free).
After the show, audience members will be selected through a drawing to participate in a meet-and-greet with Manning. They can purchase raffle tickets for $1. All proceeds will go to the United Way.
Manning attended the University of Tennessee from 1994 through 1997, where he broke nearly every school passing record. In 1998, the Indianapolis Colts drafted the New Orleans native in the first round of the NFL draft.
Manning formed the PeyBack Foundation in 1999 to help provide leadership programs and growth opportunities to disadvantaged youths. He has donated tens of thousands of dollars through this foundation to causes, such as the Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, Toys for Tots, Christmas for Kids, and the Boys and Girls Club.
As the only active player ever to serve on the NCAA Foundation Board of Directors, Manning also serves as the spokesperson for Scholastics for Kids National Literacy Campaign.
