Knapp Adds Another Coach of the Year Honor

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan University's men's track and field coach Jim Knapp has been named "Coach of the Year" for the fourth time this year.
His latest accolade is the Mondo Outdoor Great Lakes District "Coach of the Year" award, presented by the United States Track Coaches Association.
Knapp led CMU to the 2005 Mid-American Conference title in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He was named MAC "Coach of Year" for both seasons, along with picking up the district honor for each as well.
"This is a great honor, but I look at it as a 'Coaching Staff of the Year,'" Knapp said. "I believe I have the best staff in the country."
Knapp and five Chippewas will be competing in the NCAA Championships, June 8-11, in Sacramento, Calif.
Gary Winckler from Illinois was named the women's district coach of the year. The USTCA also gave out "Athlete of the Year" honors to Aarik Wilson from Indiana and Cassie Hunt from Illinois.
