Summer Sports Camps Ready to Kick Off

MOUNT PLEASANT - Although the school year may be over, Central Michigan University's summer sports camp season is just getting started.
Starting Sunday, June 12, thousands of kids will pour onto the Mount Pleasant campus.
CMU is holding 38 camps in 10 sports, plus athletic training. Right now, more than 5,000 campers, ages six to 19, are expected at the camps, which run through Aug. 4.
"Coming to camps is a wonderful opportunity to experience college life and also a great way to make friendships with kids from all over the state," said Diane Craven, manager of sport camp operations.
At the sports camps, athletes spend the day learning new skills and improving others in particular sports. Campers receive quality instruction from CMU coaching staffs, players and other local high school and team coaches.

The campers do get some free time, which they can use to go swimming, bowling, play basketball or racquetball, or participate in activities held at the residence halls.
"CMU has been in the camp business for over 30 years and continues to run a successful program in terms of instruction, facilities and location," said Craven. "We're proud of our sport camps and invite you to come and see the skill building and excitement for yourself!"
The camps feature both boarding and commuter options.
Camp instructions are held at numerous, first-class CMU facilities including Kelly/Shorts Stadium, Rose Arena, Theunissen Stadium, CMU Softball Complex, Bennett Track, the Student Activity Center and the Indoor Athletic Complex.
CMU also hosts team camps for girls and boys basketball, volleyball and football.
