Central Michigan University held its annual Women's Athletics Golf Outing on Friday at Riverwood Golf Resort in Mount Pleasant.
The outing benefited CMU's eight women's programs through the entry fees, raffles and sponsorships, including Max & Emily's which provided breakfast and food at the turn.
"This event was a tremendous success again because of the awesome support of our alumni," field hockey head coach Cristy Freese said. "It is great to connect with former athletes because they are so important to our programs. We have a great group of alumni who continue to support women's athletics year in and year out."
The outing brought together many former athletes and coaches along with current coaches and administrators.
"This outing has become a annual event for the group of players I played with," said Gina Mazzolini, a Chippewa Hall of Famer who starred for CMU's basketball and volleyball teams. "It is so much to fun come back to catch up with them and we shared a lot of laughs on the course today.

This year's outing was the biggest ever with a total of 97 people participating, up from 32 when the event first began in the late 1980's. Things kicked off with a breakfast at 8 a.m., and play starting at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start. The day concluded with a luncheon where the top teams were honored.
Winning the all-women's category was the group of Cheryl Wascher, Deb Sturm, Sara Blakely and Deb Strickler with a score of eight under par. The mixed category winners were Ben Beall, Robert Koscielski, Brad Koscielski and Troy Nix with an 11 under par.

The administration agreed.
"We have a great group of alumni and fans who support women's athletics at CMU," said CMU senior associate athletics director Marcy Weston. "The group grows and grows with the attention our coaches place on bringing alumni back to CMU and making them feel welcome."
The golf outing traditionally takes place during the last week in July each year with next year's event scheduled for July 28.
