MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan University Athletics Department recognized 97 student-athletes last evening at the 14th annual Student-Athlete Academic Excellence Banquet. Student-athletes with grade point averages of 3.5 or better were awarded for their academic success and asked to invite a faculty member who has been influential in their academic life.
Awards were also handed out to the women's soccer team for top women's team grade point average at 3.67 while men's cross country was also honored for its 3.17. The soccer team had the highest mark nationally in its sport among Division I schools while the men's cross country team ranked 18th.
Women's track and cross country had the largest number of student-athletes honored with 20.
The members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council were also commended for their contributions throughout the year.
