MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan Univesity junior Matt Loiselle (Windsor, Ont./Riverside SS) was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team for the men's outdoor track and field season. He was the only Chippewa named to the 19-man squad.
An accounting major with a 3.44 grade-point average, Loiselle scored in two events at the MAC Championships as the Chippewas defended their conference title. He posted a third-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase (9:01.09) and took sixth in the 5000m (14:35.22). Loiselle will be one of 12 Chippewas in action this weekend at the NCAA Mideast Regional at Tennessee, having qualified to compete in the 3000m steeplechase with his performance at the Stanford Invitational (8:48.15) on March 31.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. The number of honorees on the Academic All-MAC Team is the number that is set for the specific sport or 33 percent of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.
