MOUNT PLEASANT - Brandon Carter has been named the State Farm CMU Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week.

Carter, a junior 149-pounder on the Chippewas' wrestling team, upset No. 18-ranked Jermain Thompson, 1-0, in the Chippewas' 34-3 victory over Eastern Michigan Friday night. Carter scored an escape in the opening seconds of the second period for the only points of the match.

An entrepreneurship major, Carter maintains a 3.25 grade-point average. 

Each week, State Farm will recognize one male and one female student-athlete as its CMU Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
