MOUNT PLEASANT - Jeff Powers has been named the State Farm CMU Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week.

Powers won the 5,000 meters at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup in a meet-record time of 14:13.25 Friday night. The defending Mid-American Conference indoor champ in both the 5,000m and 10,000m finished more than 14 seconds ahead of the second-place runner.

Powers is a senior majoring in psychology.

Each week, State Farm will recognize one male and one female student-athlete as its CMU Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
