MOUNT PLEASANT Amanda Rudert led the Central Michigan women’s cross country team at the Jeff Drenth Memorial on Friday. The Mount Pleasant senior finished sixth in the 5K race with a time of 18:53 in the season opener for both CMU and Michigan State.
“Amanda had a strong outdoor track season running the 10K,” head coach Karen Lutzke said. “It was a turning point for her because she had some success and had a very good summer.”
Junior Kelly McClure (10th, 19:23), sophomores Danielle Dakroub (11th, 19:29), Raeanne Lohner (12th, 19:33), Kylee Kubacki (13th, 19:34) and senior Michelle Diverio (15th, 19:40) all cracked the top 15 under hot racing conditions at University Park. The meet was unscored.
“They weren’t ideal conditions, but this gives us a good starting point. I thought our top five ran strong by finishing only 41 seconds apart,” Lutzke said. “Now we just have to get them running closer to the front.”
Tiffany Abrahamian, running unattached, won the race with a time of 18:39.
The Chippewas race again on September 12th in East Lansing, where they will compete in the Spartan Invitational.
