MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan University’s CHAMPS/Life Skills program and the Central C.A.R.E. program are partnering to sponsor the 2009 Holiday Food Drive Sunday, October 25. Student-athletes from all 16 Chippewa athletic teams will be canvassing the Mount Pleasant community collecting canned and dry goods for the Isabella County Red Cross from 4-6 p.m. that afternoon.
The student-athletes will initially meet in the Indoor Athletic Complex Turf Bay on the CMU campus, and then be dispersed throughout Mount Pleasant. They will return to the Isabella County Red Cross to unload and shelve their collections.
Last year’s Holiday Food Drive collected more than 4,500 food items by more than 275 student-athletes.
“This event is a great way for our student-athletes to give back to the community,” said Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development Jason Holtman, “We hope that when the student-athletes greet community members at their homes that people will be receptive and generous with their donations to the Isabella County Red Cross. With the community’s support, we hope to collect even more items than last year.”
