Cross Country Heads to Regionals

MOUNT PLEASANT- The Central Michigan University cross country program will compete in the regional finals this Saturday at Indiana University.
The Chippewas will compete in hopes to qualify athletes for the NCAA championships later this month.
Coming off a strong Mid-American Conference Championship showing, both the men and women hope to show well against other teams in the Great Lakes Region. Currently the men are ranked 12th out of 15 and the women 14th out of 15 in the region.
The Maroon and Gold will compete with the same number of runners as the MAC meet, with eight athletes on both the men and women side.
The meet will be hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana Saturday with the men’s 10k race at noon and the women’s 6k to follow at 1:15 p.m.

News and Notes:
Setting Standards- Junior Missy Darling recieved First Team All-MAC honors after her performance at the Mid-American Conference Championships. Darling’s seventh place finish with a time of 22:35.7 helped the Chippewas to fourth place overall with 116 points. Darling is the first women to be named to an All-MAC squad since Jackie Rivard in 2006 who was named to Second Team All-MAC. Darling finished as the top runner for CMU at the MAC meet.
Conference Results- Both the men and women’s cross country teams showed a strong finish at the 2009 MAC Championships in Athens, Ohio. Riak Mabil was the stand out of the day, coming in as runner up for men (25:41.7) and helping them to an overall third place finish with 59 points. The women completed the day with a fourth place finish (116 points) and Missy Darling was the top runner with her seventh place finish (22:35.7).
