MOUNT PLEASANT Central Michigan men’s track and field junior thrower Greg Pilling (London, Ont./Sir Frederick Banting SS) was named the Mid-American Conference’s Scholar Athlete of the Week on Thursday.
Pilling broke the CMU record in the discus with a throw of 191-1 at the Len Paddock Invitational last weekend. The throw bested the school record by nearly six feet and beat his previous season best by seven feet. Pilling’s throw is the top distance in the conference entering the MAC Outdoor Championships.
Pilling carries a 3.35 grade-point average as a sport studies major.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
