Missy Darling Wins Jeff Drenth Memorial

MOUNT PLEASANT- Melissa Darling took first place for the Central Michigan women's cross country team Friday at the Jeff Drenth Memorial on Friday. Darling finished first with a time of 18:49.20.
"This was really a great meet for Missy, she battled some injuries over the summer and really stepped up today," assistant coach Matt Kaczor said.
The women had several great performances in its season opener as Holly Anderson (fourth, 19:08.31), Danielle Dakroub (fifth, 19:10.67), Kylee Kubacki (sixth, 19:12.64), Raeanne Lohner (eighth, 19:24.01), Emily Van Wasshenova (ninth, 19:35.09) and Brittany Dixon (10th, 19:35.37) all finished in the top 10.
"The women did extremely well today," director of track and field/cross country Willie Randolph said. "They started off in a good pack and broke up throughout. Their competiveness was really on display today."
The CMU men's cross country team also showed well at the meet as two runners posted top-10 finishes.
Running for the Chippewas was Jeremy Kiley (sixth, 16:11.81), Chris Pankow (seventh, 16:14.29), Wade Buchs (18th, 16:46.26), Adam Smith (19th, 16:54.40), Gideon Kiptoo (20th, 17:01.45) and Cory Arnold (29th, 17:48.08).
Also of note, freshman Tecumseh Adams competed unattached and finished in third place with a time of 15:50.16.
"I am pleased with how we ran today as a program," Randolph said. "We are going to take the hard work and perseverance that we showed today and translate throughout the season into all of our meets."
