MOUNT PLEASANT – The Central Michigan Athletics program will sponsor the 2010 Holiday Food Drive this Sunday, October 24, as student-athletes from all 16 Chippewa athletic teams will be canvassing the Mount Pleasant community to collect canned food items and dry goods for the Isabella County Red Cross from 4-6 p.m. The event is sponsored by both the Student-Athlete Advisory Council and the Central Athletes Reaching Everyone (C.A.R.E.) program.
The student-athletes will initially meet at the Indoor Athletic Complex Turf Bay on the CMU campus before dispersing throughout Mount Pleasant. They will return to the Isabella County Red Cross to unload and shelve their collections.
Last year’s Holiday Food Drive collected more than 5,000 food items by more than 300 student-athletes.
“This is annually one of our most successful events and easily one of the largest donations the Red Cross receives each year," said Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development Jason Holtman. "Our student-athletes are looking forward to being out in the community again and we are expecting strong support again from the area residents this year."
For more information on the 2010 Holiday Food Drive please contact Holtman (774-6091) or the C.A.R.E. office at (989) 774-7538.
