Chippewas Finish Eighth at Regionals

ROCHESTER, Mich. –- The Central Michigan women’s cross country team finished eighth out of 33 teams at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on Saturday, their highest finish ever at a regional championship. The men’s team finished 19th out of 31 teams.
Junior Raeanne Lohner earned an All-Region selection by finishing 15th in a field of 231 runners. Lohner finished with a time of 21:04.94 in the 6K race.
Freshman Krista Parks was the second runner for the Chippewas to cross the finish line, placing 29th with a time of 21:31.10.
Four other athletes finished in the top 100 for the CMU women. Junior Holly Anderson finished 59th (21:58.79), senior Danielle Dakroub was 62nd (22:02.89), sophomore Maddie Ribant placed 70th (22:11.04) and senior Kylee Kubacki was 71st (22:11.71).
“The women had a solid performance today,” said director of track and field/cross country Willie Randolph. “Having a top-10 performance in our region, along with a first-team all-region selection is an accomplishment that we are very pleased with.”
The top finisher for the Chippewa men’s team was senior Cory Arnold. He finished 82nd in a field of 216 runners with a time of 32:16.12 in the 10K race.
The next four runners for CMU were all in the same pack. Sophomore Jason Drudge finished with a time of 32:25.85, placing 89th. Freshman Zach Tranter was 98th with a time of 32:34.82. Junior Jeremy Kiley finished in 109th with a time of 32:46.69 and senior Chris Pankow was .18 seconds behind Kiley in 110th with a time of 32:46.87.
“The men were competitive and stepped up to beat some opponents that we had not beaten all year,” said Randolph. “We gave it our best and set ourselves up for a future that we are truly looking forward to.”
The NCAA National Championships are on November 22nd in Terre Haute, Ind. The final field for those meets will be announced on Sunday.
