MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan's men's and women's track and field programs kick off the indoor season with the Chippewa Open on Friday afternoon.
Field events will begin at 4 p.m. at the Jack Skoog Indoor Track at CMU's Indoor Athletic Complex. Running events begin at 6 p.m.
Complete results will be available on CMUChippewas.com following the meet.
Friday's meet gives Randolph and his coaching staff a chance to evaluate the team's progress through fall training and see how the freshmen respond to live competition.
"We have 32 new kids in the program, so it will be good to see them in a competitive environment," said CMU director of track and field/cross country Willie Randolph. "Many of our underclassmen have never run indoors before, so we will put them in their main events to give them that experience."
While the underclassmen will compete in their primary events, Friday's meet gives the coaching staff an opportunity to enter many of their returning upperclassmen in events not in their normal repertoire.
"This meet is about gaining experience for most of our team and giving them an opportunity to compete before the holiday break," Randolph said.
Following Friday's meet, the CMU is off from competition until Jan. 14 when it hosts the Chip Invite.
