Chippewas Travel to Grand Valley Big Meet

MOUNT PLEASANT- The Central Michigan track and field program will travel to Grand Valley State University this weekend for the Grand Valley Big Meet.
After a weekend off the Chippewas look to get back into their events with only two more meets until the Mid-American Conference Championships.
The meet will feature a host of teams from different conferences and give CMU a chance to see a variety of competition.
The meet will begin Friday with the pentathlon and heptathlon at 11 a.m. All other field events will begin at 4 p.m. with running events to follow at 5 p.m. Events will continue Saturday with both the field and running events beginning at 10 a.m.

News and Notes:
Regionally Ranked- Both the men’s and women’s teams received regional recognition as the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association’s (USTFCCCA) released its weekly rankings. The men’s team is currently 13th in the region with 46.01 and the women check into the week ranked 14th with 96.07 points.
Get Em’ At Home- The Chippewas will host their third home meet of the year Friday, February 19. This will be the third home meet of the season for the Chippewas and their final meet before the Mid-American Conference Meet.
MAC Time- CMU will host both the Mid-American Conference Championships February 26-27 at the Jack Skoog Indoor Track. Both the men’s and women’s teams will look to win a MAC title at home.
Top of the MAC- Both the men's and women's team boast several athletes who are among the MAC leaders in their events. On the men's side, Marcus Breidinger is second in the league on pole vault (17-4 1/2), Renaldo Powell checks in at fourth in the 60m hurdles (8.19), Kevin Bacon is fourth in the league in long jump (22-11 1/4), John Calvert ranks fourth in shot put (55-5) and Riak Mabil is fifth in the 3000m (8:34.91). For the women, Erika Schroll is the MAC leader in high jump (5-11 1/4) and is fourth in the pentathlon (3,525 points), Cara Dukes has the league lead in the 400m (55.76), Shanaye Carr is second in the 60m hurdles (8.65), Raeanne Lohner ranks third in the 3000m (9:55.69) and Jordan Dunn fifth in the conference in the 60m (7.66).
