COLUMBUS/TOLEDO, Ohio — A pair of first-place finishes at the Toledo Invitational highlighted a strong throws performance by the Central Michigan track and field program to start its weekend of competition.
Mykal Imbrock set a career-best for the second straight week in the hammer throw by tossing 181-0 to top the field of 24 in the event.
On the men’s side, George Flanner was one of three Chippewa athletes to finish in the top four in the shot put. Flanner took the crown with a throw of 52-0 1/2 while Mychael King’s toss of 49-8 1/4 took third and John Calvert’s 49-6 1/4 was good for fourth.
Several other Maroon and Gold athletes competed against a tough national field at the prestigious Jesse Owens Classic.
Marcus Breidinger’s height of 15-7 in the pole vault was the ninth-best in the event, but a jump-off tiebreaker dropped the senior to 19th in the field.
For the women, Erika Schroll posted the highest finish of any Chippewa. The senior took 11th in the javelin with a throw of 121-10.
The Chippewas conclude their stay at the Jesse Owens Classic on Saturday. CMU also has athletes in action at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday.
