MOUNT PLEASANT – All 16 of Central Michigan University’s sport programs have exceeded the benchmark score in the NCAA’s 2010 Academic Progress Rate report (APR) released today by the NCAA.
Data for the most recent APR was taken from the academic years of 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09. Meeting the benchmark score of 925 out of a possible 1,000 indicates that a team has met the NCAA’s standards for academic performance.
CMU's men's cross country program, which earned public recognition from the NCAA last month for its APR performance, scored a perfect 1,000 in the 2010 report. Five other programs scored a 975 or higher: women's cross country (991), field hockey (989), volleyball (986), men's outdoor track and field (975) and women's basketball (975).
"Academic performance and success are critically important and define what Chippewa athletics are all about," said CMU Director of Athletics Dave Heeke. "Our student-athletes strive to be champions in the classroom and in the competitive arena."
The APR is calculated by allocating points for academic eligibility and retention of student-athletes on athletic scholarships. A team’s APR score is the total points earned by the team at a given time divided by the total points possible and multiplied by 1,000.
