Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Detroit Mercy, Aquinas and Oakland will be competing against the Chippewas. Detroit Mercy, Aquinas and Oakland are bringing both their men's and women's teams while Eastern Michigan's mens and Toledo's womens teams are competing.
Top returners for the men's team include juniors Christopher Thomas and Kevin Bacon and sophomores Alex Rose and Renaldo Powell. Rose is coming off of a 13th place finish in the NCAA Outdoor Championships in discus. Thomas, Bacon and Powell all placed in last year's MAC Indoor Championships as Thomas and Bacon finished third in the 400m dash and long jump, respectively, and Powell took fourth in the 60m hurdles.
Returning for the women are fellow seniors Raeanne Lohner and Shanaye Carr. Lohner, who currently holds the indoor school record for the mile run (4:50.48), finished runner-up in the in the MAC Cross Country Championships this fall. Carr was named to the first team All-MAC indoor team after winning the 60m hurdles in the MAC Indoor Championships last year.
"We want to take everything one week at a time and understand that it takes the little things to make the big things happen. If we take care of the little things, communicate and support each other, then everything else will take care of itself," said Willie Randolph, Director of Track and Field/Cross Country. "You can't control every situation, but you can control the athletes' mindsets and what they believe they can accomplish. Right now, we know we are capable of doing some good things."
Admission is $5 for all spectators. Field events are scheduled to begin at 4 and running events at 6 p.m.
Complete results will be available on cmuchippewas.com following the completion of the event.
