Mays Climbs National Rankings at SVSU Cardinal

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Senior thrower Kevin Mays continued his climb up the national rankings in the weight throw as throwers and a handful of other student-athletes competed at The Cardinal unscored indoor track and field meet at Saginaw Valley State University.
The Flint native recorded a season-best mark of 66-06 in the weight throw en route to winning the event. According to the Track and Field Results Reporting System, Mays had been ranked 17th among NCAA Division I athletes in the event as of Friday evening, and will likely jump up in the rankings as all of Friday's results are entered into the system. His new ranking will likely be available Saturday afternoon.
Fellow Chippewas senior Ryan McCullough and Calvin Jackson rounded out the top three in the weight throw. McCullough recorded a throw of 61-05.75, while Jackson threw 54-11. McCullough is ranked 34th among NCAA DI weight throwers as of Friday evening.
In the shot put, senior Mychael King finished second and recorded a new season best with a 52-00 toss. Senior George Flanner placed third with a season-best throw of 51-06.
Junior Kayla Brindley finished third in the women's shot put with a throw of 39-11.5, and freshman Kyla Walworth finished fourth with a mark of 39-10.75.
Senior Dierra Riley won the 60m dash with a time of 7.82 by just one hundredth of a second over Leslie Mitchell of Lake Superior State in the finals.
Redshirt freshman Nathaniel Hop finished second in the pole vault with a season-best vault of 15-00.
Seniors Raquel Gibbs and Andrea Pawlowski finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 400m dash. Gibbs ran a 1:02.43, while Pawlowski recorded a 1:02.61.
Sophomore Parker Scott finished 6th in the 60m hurdles finals with a time of 9.07.
The full team is next in action at Notre Dame for the Meyo Invitational beginning Friday, Feb. 3 and continuing into Saturday.
