McCullough and Kulidzan Both Earn All-America Awards

MOUNT PLEASANT – Senior thrower Ryan McCullough earned second-team All-America honors in the men's hammer throw and freshman Milica Kulidzan earned honorable mention All-America honors in the women's javelin after their performances at the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Tuesday.
First-team honors were awarded to the top eight finishers or any student-athlete who scored in an event, and second-team honors were bestowed to those student-athletes who finished ninth through 16th. Those student-athletes who did not place in the top 16 but competed were named honorable mention.
McCullough, who finished 13th in the hammer throw with a mark of 206-02, is the first hammer thrower in school history to earn All-America honors.
McCullough was one of just two male student-athletes from the Mid-American conference to earn first- or second-team All-America honors. Thrower Rob Golabek of Buffalo also finished second-team in the shot put.
Kulidzan finished 23rd in the javelin with a mark of 140-08 to cap a sensational debut season. She is the first CMU woman to earn an All-America award since 2006 when Tamera Thomas earned first-team honors in the pentathlon.
She is the second CMU women's javelin thrower to be honored with an All-America award, following Karen Wilkinson in 1991.
As a conference, the MAC was represented by nine total first- or second-team All-Americans.
