MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan basketball coach Keno Davis announced Wednesday the signing of Corey Redman to a National Letter of Intent.
Redman, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Boyne City, is the lone Chippewas signee in the Class of 2015. CMU has just one senior, Austin Keel, on its current roster.
"He's a prototypical wing at 6-5 with length and he's versatile and yet he's a great outside shooter," said Davis, who is in his third year as CMU's coach. "He fits in line with our past recruits with extremely high character, work ethic, and a strong academic background.
"There aren't many shooters in the country -- guys who can really shoot from an extended range, and he is somebody that we expect to be able to do that on day one."
Redman is entering his senior season at Boyne City High School. He was named to the Detroit Free Press Class C All-State Second Team last year, when he averaged 20 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
He made a verbal commitment to CMU in 2012, the summer before his sophomore year.
"We were able to evaluate him at an early age and fortunate to now have him in the program," Davis said. "I think other schools have recognized his talent recently."
Redman, whose father, Nick, is the Boyne City coach, carries a 3.66 grade point average.
"His academics, his basketball IQ, his character and his work ethic have not only allowed him to get to the point of being a Division I athlete, but those factors also make you believe that he has a very high ceiling," Davis said. "He has improved a great deal since we first recruited him."
