Guthrie Welcomes New Recruits

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan cross-country and track and field programs welcomes 13 new student-athletes to the Maroon and Gold squad for the 2014-2015 academic year.
"I thought our coaching staff did a great job with the recruiting process at this point," director of track and field Mark Guthrie said, "We filled some holes and enhanced our talent pool. I think this is a good start to the new foundation, new era."
Out of the recruiting class, six will join the women's squad and seven for the men's.

She will be a big help to the strong core of distance ladies that are on the team. Maura is a state champion from a strong distance state of Illinois who finished the season ranked as the number 25 XC lady for miles in the nation according to dyestat." |

Kalya has demonstrated her ability to be a champion in the classroom as well. Kayla's current best of 38' 8.5" makes her an immediate scorer in the MAC. The most exciting part about Kayla is she has only been triple jumping for 2 years providing her with limitless potential. With the return of MAC-scorer Shaya Wilkerson and the addition of Abby Wagner and Kayla, we anticipate the women's triple jump to be a dominant event for us in the near future." |

Career Bests (HS): 800m (1:53); 5k (15:43) Kaczor on Megge: "The fastest 800 runner from this class in the State of Michigan according to athletic.net. Nathan, we see, as a guy to help fill the hole of the 800 and mile. Nathan ran one season of XC and was All-State with a 15:43.2 his junior year. The other years he was the starting quarterback for the football team. We are excited to have a guy of Nathan's caliber come and help get the middle distance rolling again." |

Career Bests (HS): 60m hurdles (8.21); 110m hurdles (14.54) Coach Guthrie on Moffo: "Shane has demonstrated his ability to be a MAC scorer early in his career at Central Michigan. He has had the opportunity to compete at several high intensity meets and as a result, not be intimidated at the collegiate level. Dystat has him ranked 4th in Michigan, 15th in the Midwest Region and 29th nationally for this year's class. Shane is also very strong academically, which will assist him in the classroom as well as navigating the technicalities of the hurdles." |

Career Best: 400m (48.30) Coach Guthrie on Sullivan: "Archie comes from the track rich state of Indiana where there is only one division. As a result, he has seen high levels of competition and successfully navigated his way to the podium last year having run 48.30 for fifth place. His engaging personality, academic strength and willingness to put in the time in search of success are traits that will serve him well at CMU. Archie has the ability to be a MAC impact athlete early in his career."
