Johnson's 82 Leads Chippewas at Cardinal Classic

YORKTOWN, Ind. -- Natalie Johnson shot an 82 to lead the Central Michigan women's golf team Monday in the first round of the 36-hole Cardinal Classic on The Players Club Golf Course in Yorktown, Indiana.
Johnson is tied for 56th in the 99-player field. Chloe Guschewski shot an 84 for the Chippewas, who posted a 342 team score in Monday's first round and stand in 16th place, nine shots behind 15th-place Valparaiso.
Eastern Michigan leads the tournament with a 298 team score.
The tournament is scheduled to conclude on Tuesday with the second and final round. Also for CMU on Monday, Grace Lebrecque shot an 86, Amanda Walsh posted a 90, and Hannah Matthies shot a 96.
Meghan McDougall of host Ball State shot a 3-under par 69 to take the first-round lead. Teammate Kelsey Sear is in second, three shots back, after an even-par 72. Western Michigan, Ohio, Indiana-Purdue-Indianapolis and Northern Illinois round out the top five.
