MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan men's and women's cross country teams will look to further solidify their respective lineups, and get a look at some of their regional competition, when they compete Saturday in the 29th Annual Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by Minnesota.
Three nationally ranked teams are scheduled to partake in the 31-team men's event, while seven are expected for the women's, which comprises 36 teams.
Breanne Lesnar, Abbey Kelto, Jamie Madrigal, Michaela Bundy and Esther Bell are slated to competed for the CMU women, associated head coach Matt Kaczor said.
"We are hoping for two top-50 finishes and if we do that, we are putting ourselves in a good position," he said.
On the men's side, senior Kyle Stacks will sit out as he works his way back from an injury. Even without Stacks, the Chippewa lineup is deep and Kaczor expects to see some solid performances from the likes of senior Ethan Lievense, junior Nate Ghena, and sophomore Spencer Nousain, along with Nathan Huff, Casey Voisin, Tanner Pesonen and Ben Wynsma.
Stacks should be ready when the Chippewas compete at the Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 3.
The nationally ranked women's teams in the field are Michigan State (third), Iowa State (ninth), Butler (11th), Boise State (20th), Vanderbilt (22nd), Minnesota (28th) and North Carolina (30th). Texas, which is ranked 24th, is one of three ranked men's teams. The others are Iowa State (27th) and Colorado State (29th).
