Track & Field, cross country, hand out awards

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Throwers Cole Walderzak and Devene Brown earned the most valuable awards at the annual Central Michigan Track & Field and Cross Country awards banquet last week.
Walderzak earned the Jim Knapp Award, which goes to the most-valuable member of the men's team. Brown captured the Don Sazima Award, which goes to the most-valuable member of the women's team.
The Lyle Bennett Freshman of the Year Awards went to Erick Huertas and Lorenzo Wells of the men's team, and Kirsten Olling of the women's team.
Dylan Banagis and Malik Peacock were named captains of the mens' track and field team for the 2016 season, while Kelly Schubert and Kylee Dobbelaere were named the women's team captains.
Abbey Kelto earned the Karen Lutzke Award as the most-valuable runner on the 2014 women's cross country team, while Nate Ghena was named the Craig Fuller Award winner as the most valuable on the men's team.
The Lyle Bennett Freshman of the Year Awards went to Hannah Davis of the women's team and Joseph Emmanuel of the men's team.
Breanne Lesnar and Ghena were named team captains.
