
Kelto 2nd in 10,000 at MAC Championships

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Central Michigan's Abbey Kelto placed second in the women's 10,000-meter run Thursday on Day 1 of the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Ball State's University Track.
The Chippewas scored in four events. CMU is fifth with 13 points in the 10-team women's field, while the Chippewa men are fourth with 7 points. Six teams comprise the men's field.
Akron and Miami (Ohio) are tied atop the men's team standings, each with 24 points. The Akron women scored 37 points to lead the women's standings. Toledo (21) is second.
Kelto, a senior, finished the 10,000 in 34 minutes, 54.14 seconds. Kelsey Hildreth, a Northern Illinois freshman, won in 34:37.50. CMU's Kelly Schubert placed seventh in 35:58.30.
Also for the CMU women, Kylee Dobbelaere finished seventh in the hammer throw at 56.99 meters; and Kyleigh Young placed eighth in the javelin with a 42.07-meter throw. Both Young and Dobbelaere are sophomores.
For the CMU men, junior Brandon McCleese placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 60.36 meters; and junior Nate Ghena finished seventh in the 10,000 in 30:58.25.
The championships continue on Friday and are scheduled to conclude on Saturday.
