
Johnson, Sawyer Lead CMU In Opening Round

SILVER LAKE, Ohio - Natalie Johnson and Danielle Sawyer both shot 79 on Friday to lead the Central Michigan golf team in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championships.
The 54-hole tournament, which is being played at Silver Lake Country Club, continues on Saturday and concludes on Sunday.
Johnson, a junior, and Sawyer, a freshman, are among a group tied for 23rd in the 49-player field.
Also for the Chippewas on Friday, Holly Hines and Bria Colosky both shot 83, and Kristen Wolfe posted an 89.
The Chippewas recorded a 324 team total and stand in ninth place in the 10-team event. They are three shots ahead of Bowling Green.
Kent State, which is ranked 12th nationally, shot a 289 team total on Friday for a five-shot lead over Ohio and Northern Illinois. Western Michigan (309) is fourth.
Three Golden Flashes - Pimnipa Panthong, Wad Phaewchimplee and Karoline Stormo - shot even par 72 on Friday and share the lead. Teammate Michaela Finn is one shot back.
