
Chippewas Head To MAC Championships

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Central Michigan track & field team will partake in the Mid-American Conference Championships at Western Michigan's Kanley Track & Field Complex.
The three-day meet gets underway on Thursday with the decathlon and heptathlon along with the hammer throw, the javelin and the men's pole vault. The 10,000-meter races are scheduled for Thursday night.
The Championships resume on Saturday at 11 a.m. and conclude with the steeplechase, which is slated to begin at 4:45 p.m. (men) and 5:05 p.m. (women). On Saturday, the meet begins with the discus at 10 a.m. and concludes with the 4x400 relays - men at 4:45 p.m., women at 5:05 p.m. - and the closing ceremonies.
Several Chippewas are ranked among the top five in their respective events heading into the meet, including two freshman, Nadia Williams and Logan Targgart.
Targgart has the top distance - 213 feet, 9 inches - in the men's hammer throw this season among all MAC throwers; Williams' 20-1/4 is the season best among long jumpers.
Several other Chippewas are ranked in the top five in their respective events, including Samantha Cuneo, who is second in the women's 400, and Kevin Weiler, who is second in the men's shot put.
Chippewas who are ranked third are Joseph Seghi, decathlon; Avery Joseph, men's javelin; Kylee Dobbelaere, women's hammer throw; Dylan Banagis, men's hammer throw and men's discus.
Akron is the defending men's team champion, Eastern Michigan the women's. the Chippewa men were fourth (of six) last season, while the women were fifth (of 12).
