CMU Earns Third Straight Institutional Sportsmanship Award

CLEVELAND - A three-peat for Central Michigan athletics.
Central Michigan received the Mid-American Conference Institutional Sportsmanship Award for the third consecutive year on Wednesday at the league's Honors Dinner, a part of the MAC's annual spring meetings at the Cleveland Renaissance Hotel.
On hand to accept the award, presented by MAC Commissioner, Dr. Jon A. Steinbrecher, were CMU Interim Athletics Director Marcy Weston, Deputy Athletic Director Cristy Freese, Faculty Athletics Representative Kevin Love, and student-athletes Christen Chiesa, Dylan Banagis, Evelyn Lorimer and Derek Edwards.
"Everything comes into play for this award," CMU Interim Director of Athletics Marcy Weston said. "It's about how we conduct ourselves in all aspects of competition. On the road, or when schools visit, it's about how we comport ourselves, the facilities we provide, how our students, coaches and administrators interact with other schools.
"To win three years in a row shows we're all in. This is an award we're very proud of."
The Institutional Sportsmanship Award evolved from the conference strategic plan, in which the value of sportsmanship became a linchpin of the league's mission statement and core values.
Every MAC institution received votes, which further supports that sportsmanship is emphasized and expected from MAC student-athletes, coaches and administrators across each and every MAC campus.
"The Institutional Sportsmanship Award is a positive reinforcement of one of the values that we as a conference and each of our member institutions all possess as a core value of who we are and how we conduct ourselves in athletic competition," said MAC Commissioner, Dr. Jon A. Steinbrecher.
