MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan men's basketball coach Keno Davis has announced the signing of three players who will join the Chippewa program for the 2019-20 season.
The trio includes 6-foot-5 guard Travon Broadway of Miami, Fla., 6-2 guard Devontae Lane of Iowa City, Iowa and 6-9 forward Caleb Hodgson of Dansville, Mich.
"I am very pleased with this group of early signees for 2019," said Davis, who recently earned his 100th career victory at CMU. "We believe that these three student-athletes will succeed at CMU, both academically and athletically. Having the combination of talent and experience in Broadway and Lane
along with the youth and potential of Hodgson should be a good blend in helping to round out our team."
Broadway is playing this season at Iowa Western Community College after playing last season at St. Petersburg (Fla.) Community College. At SPCC, Broadway averaged 14.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, earning FCSAA First Team All-Conference honors.
"We are excited about the explosiveness that Tray brings to an already talented backcourt, with his ability to impact the game both as a scorer and as a gifted defensive player," said Davis.
Lane, who attended Iowa West High School, the alma mater of Davis and junior forward David DiLeo, was a three-time first team all-state selection for the Trojans. This season and last, Lane has been running the point for Indian Hills Community College, the same school that sent Rob Montgomery to CMU. A year ago, the Warriors went 33-1.
"Lane has the benefit of having played with David (DiLeo) and Rob (Montgomery). He is a point guard who not only can both distribute the basketball and score but is also a great leader on the court," said Davis.
Hodgson is a senior at Dansville High School. As a junior, he averaged 23.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game, earning First Team All-State recognition from the AP, Detroit News, Detroit Free Press and BankHoops.com.
"Hodgson brings size and strength to his position," said Davis. "But he can also stretch the floor like others who have had success in our program such as John Simons, Luke Meyer and David DiLeo."
