Chippewas Head To Ole Miss, Oakland

SETTING THE SCENE
The Central Michigan track & field team will partake in two events this weekend, the Joe Walker Invitational in Oxford, Miss., hosted by Ole Miss; and the Oakland University Golden Grizzly Invitational in Rochester.
Both meets are non-scoring, and both begin on Friday and conclude on Saturday.
WHO & WHERE
Approximately 40 Chippewas covering most events from multis to sprints to hurdles to throws to jumps will head to Mississippi, while another 30 – the majority of them distance and middle-distance runners -- will compete at Oakland.
THE OPPOSITION
Scheduled to join the Chippewas and the host Rebels at Ole Miss are Arkansas Pine Bluff, Jackson State, Memphis, Meridian Community College, Saint Louis, Southeast Missouri and West Alabama. The Ole Miss women’s team is ranked 21st nationally.
SCHEDULE
At Ole Miss, the first four events of the heptathlon along with the hammer throw, javelin, men’s pole vault and the long jump will be contested on Friday afternoon, while running events get started on Friday evening; on Saturday morning, the final three events of the heptathlon are scheduled for the morning, followed in the afternoon by the discus, the triple jump, the shot put, the high jump and the women’s pole vault; running events are slated to begin at 2 p.m.
At Oakland, most of the events will be contested on Friday, beginning at 2 p.m. with the hammer throw. The running events, beginning with the 100-meter dash preliminaries, are slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. Only field events will be contested on Saturday, beginning at noon with the discus and the triple jump and concluding with the shot put.
