
21 Chippewas Earn 'Distinguished' Honor

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Twenty-one Central Michigan student-athletes were named a Mid-American Conference Distinguished Scholar Athlete by the league.
The honorable distinction goes to students who have excelled both athletically and academically. Those honorees must have achieved a 3.20 or better grade point average, participated in at least 50 percent of his or her team's competitions and been selected by their institution's faculty athletic representative as a 'best of the best' among those earning a spot on their respective MAC All-Academic squad.
First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
Central Michigan gymnasts Katy Clements and Bryttany Kaplan were both named a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete for the third-consecutive year. Both are seniors.
Clements, who hails from Gainsville, Ga., is a journalism-public relations major who carries a 3.57 GPA; Kaplan, from Parker, Colo., is a recreation and event management major with a 3.93 GPA.
Four Chippewas earned the distinction for the second straight year. They are Luke Anderson of the men's track and field team, Samantha Cuneo of the women's track and field team, and women's basketball team members Reyna Frost and Presley Hudson.

Men's track and field: Anderson, sophomore, 3.60, economics, Palms; Alec Esparza, junior, 3.78, biochemistry, Saginaw; Erick Huertas, junior, 3.41, accounting, Grafton, Wis.; Shane Moffo, junior, 3.34, finance, Farmington Hills; Conor Naughton, redshirt freshman, 3.64, undecided, Northville; Joe Seghi, junior, 3.39, marketing, Butchville; Logan Targgart, sophomore, 3.81, personal finance planning, Coldwater.
