Chippewa Golfers 8th After Day 1 At MAC Fall Preview

Deardorff, tied for 8th, leads CMU
SILVER LAKE, Ohio – Meghan Deardorff shot 78-77—155 on Monday to lead the Central Michigan golf team during the opening day of the Mid-American Conference Fall Preview at Silver Lake Country Club.
The Chippewas posted a 328 score in Monday's opening round, and then shot 321 in the afternoon for a 649 total. They are in eighth place in the nine-team field, two shots behind seventh-place Ohio and seven behind sixth-place Bowling Green.
Host Akron shot 319-308—627 for a three-shot lead over second-place Eastern Michigan. Ball State and Toledo are tied for third at 633.
Deardorff, a junior, stands at 11-over par and in a three-way tie for eighth place.
CMU freshman Claudia Salvador shot 80-76 for a 12-over 156 and is tied for 11th.
Also for the Chippewas, Padgett Chitty shot 84-84—168, Zoe Vartyan shot 86-84—170, and Rachel Leucuta carded 92-87—197. Chitty is tied for 44th, while Vartyan is tied for 50th in the 64-player field.
Two Kent State players, Sitanun Jonglikit and Julia Goodson, are first and second, respectively. Jonglikit shot 75-73—148, while Goodson shot 76-75—151. Both are playing as individuals.
The final round of the 54-hole tournament is scheduled to begin on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
