Chippewa Golfers Tied For 5th After Day 1 At EMU

Deardorff, Vartyan among group tied for 19th
YPSILANTI, Mich. – the Central Michigan golf team shot 306-305 – 611 on Monday and stands tied for fifth place after 36 holes at the Eastern Michigan Shirley Spork Invitational at Eagle Crest Golf Club.
The final 18 holes of the tournament are scheduled for Tuesday morning. The field comprises 12 teams and the Chippewas are tied with Western Michigan, 15 shots behind first-place Eastern Michigan, the host team.
Purdue Fort Wayne and Oakland are tied for second place at 601, while Green Bay is fourth at 607.
Individually, CMU's Meghan Deardorff and Zoe Vartyan are tied for 19th at 152. Deardorff posted back-to-back rounds of 76 on Monday, while Vartyan shot 75-77. The field comprises 75 players.
Also for the Chippewas on Monday, Padgett Chitty shot 77-76 – 153, Claudia Salvador shot 78-76 – 154, and Rachel Leucuta shot 83-79 – 162. Chitty is tied for 25th, Salvador is tied for 29th, and Leucuta is tied for 54th.
CMU's Ashley Liles is among the group tied for 54th, while the Chippewas' Jami Laude is tied for 66th. Liles and Laude entered the tournament as individuals. Liles 85-77 – 162; Laude 87-80 – 167.
Michigan's Mikaela Schulz, playing as an individual, shot a 4-under 140 (68-72) and leads the tournament by four shots over Oakland's Amalia Shahzan and Eastern Michigan's Julia Stevenson.
