MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Adam Jaksa got his start in broadcasting at Central Michigan.
Now, CMU Athletics has turned to one of its own – a familiar voice with a maroon-and-gold pedigree -- to be the voice of the Chippewas.
Jaksa has been named as the lead play-by-play broadcaster for the Chippewa Sports Network and will serve in that role on CMU football and men's basketball radio broadcasts.
He will also continue in his role as the lead voice on ESPN3/ESPN-Plus telecasts, including those of Chippewa wrestling, volleyball, gymnastics and women's basketball. He also hosts the weekly Coach Mac Show and Sideliners on Thursday nights.
Jaksa, 28, succeeds the late Don Chiodo, a mentor to Jaksa since the latter arrived on the CMU campus as an undergrad in 2011 and began working on Chippewa broadcasts, serving as the play-by-play broadcaster for almost every Chippewa sport
Chiodo, the beloved Voice of the Chippewas and a CMU alum, was killed in an automobile accident in early December. Jaksa had worked alongside Chiodo as the CMU football sideline reporter and had occasionally filled in as the play-by-play voice during selected football and men's basketball games.
"Don was such an impactful person in my life," Jaksa said. "I'll forever remember everything he's done for me and those around him. I'm very grateful Central Michigan has selected me to succeed my mentor.
"It's an honor to be the next voice of CMU, a school that has produced so many talented broadcasters. I appreciate all the continued support from the Chippewa community and look forward to describing the next chapter of Central Michigan Athletics."
Jaksa, a native of Eaton Rapids, earned a bachelor's degree from CMU in 2014. He majored in broadcast and cinematic arts with a minor in sports management. He has continued in that role and served as the department's multimedia director on an interim basis from 2016-18.
He has served as the master of ceremonies for a range of CMU events, including hall of fame inductions, pep rallies and fund raisers.
Jaksa also serves as a broadcaster for the Lansing Lugnuts, the Toronto Blue Jays single-A minor league affiliate, and as a guest co-host for several radio sports talk programs throughout the state, among them Big Drew and Jim, The Mad Dog Show, and The HUGE Show.
Jaksa has also served as the lead broadcaster for Michigan High School Athletic Association and Mid-American Conference events and has done extensive work with ESPN, the Big Ten Network and ACC Network Extra.
