MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Two Central Michigan Athletics teams are among the top performing academic squads in the nation.
Based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR), the Chippewa men's cross country and women's golf programs have earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for posting scores in the top 10 percent of their sport. Both programs posted a multi-year APR of 1000, the highest mark possible.
"Proud of both these programs for earning this well-deserved honor," Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Michael Alford said. "These programs do things the right way, recruiting outstanding student-athletes and building a culture of success in the classroom that leads to impactful graduates."
There are 307 Division men's cross country programs in the nation, and 249 such women's golf programs. This is the fifth time that golf has received the honor while cross country has earned it three times.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
